B-3 Anti-Crime Unit Recovered a Firearm and Drugs After a Traffic Stop in Dorchester

At about 2:05 AM, on Sunday, May 12, 2024, officers assigned to the Anti-Crime Unit of District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Christopher Joseph, 31, of Nashua, New Hampshire, on firearm and drug charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Morton Street and West Selden Street when they observed a motor vehicle operating with an expired registration. Officers activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens, and stopped the vehicle in the area of 38 Gallivan Boulevard.

Officers made contact with all the occupants who immediately rolled down their windows except for the right rear passenger. Officers requested the right rear passenger to roll his window down, which he continued to disregard. The operator of the motor vehicle rolled down the right rear passenger window, and officers observed the passenger to be breathing heavily. Officers asked the passenger if he needed medical attention which he refused.

Due to the motor vehicle’s expired registration, officers requested all three occupants to exit the vehicle as it needed to be towed. As the right rear passenger exited the vehicle, officers conducted a pat frisk and recovered a plastic bag containing marijuana and a plastic bag containing cocaine. The suspect attempted to move his body away from officers, who then felt what they believed to be a firearm.

Officers placed the suspect into handcuffs, and were able to recover the firearm from his waistband. The firearm was later determined to be a Springfield Armory Hellcat 9MM with a loaded magazine containing twelve rounds.

Joseph was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, and possession of class B. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
