Shoplifter Arrested With over $2,000 Worth of Merchandise in the Back Bay

At about 6:37 PM, on Thursday, March 14, 2024, officers assigned to District D-4 (South End) arrested Rafael Ramos, 42, of Braintree, on shoplifting charges.

Officers were conducting a walk and talk (code 19) in the area of 800 Boylston Street to address the ongoing shoplifting complaints from businesses at the Prudential Mall. Officers were advised that a known shoplifter just left the Sephora store without paying for items. Officers were advised by loss prevention that the suspect entered a motor vehicle and fled the area.

Officers were able to stop the motor vehicle in the area of 88 Exeter Street. The suspect stepped out of the vehicle, and was placed into handcuffs. Officers were able to locate multiple stolen items with Sephora tags still on them. The items were later determined to be valued at about $2,013.

Ramos was placed under arrest and charged with shoplifting over $1,200. He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
