At approximately 12:52 AM on Sunday, March 3, 2024, officers from the B-2 (Roxbury) Anti-Crime Unit apprehended Mario Thames, 25, of Boston, on firearm related charges.
Officers were on routine patrol in the area of Hampden St and Melnea Cass when they observed an unregistered vehicle in violation of the auto laws. They initiated a stop of the vehicle, which halted at the Albany and Hampden St intersection, where they engaged with Thames. Thames, found to be driving without a valid license, was ordered to exit the vehicle. During an inventory search of the vehicle, officers noticed that part of the center console was tampered with and loose. A more thorough examination revealed the handle and slide of a gun. Thames was arrested, and the weapon was identified as a loaded black and silver 9mm SCCY CPX-1, with one bullet in the chamber and eleven in the magazine.
Thames faces charges for unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, possessing a high-capacity firearm, operating without a license, operating an unregistered vehicle, and number plate violation to conceal identity. His arraignment is scheduled at Roxbury District Court.
