BPD In The Community: On this Sunday, February 25, 2024, officers from District E-13 (Jamaica Plain) were privileged to offer their assistance to those participating in a commemorative event honoring the memory of USMC LCpl Jared Schmitz on what would have been his 23rd birthday. Together, we pay tribute not only to Jared but also to his comrades who made the ultimate sacrifice at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, on August 26, 2021. Among them are Massachusetts native Marine Sgt. Johanny Rosario Pichardo, Sgt. Nicole L. Gee, Staff Sgt. Darin T. Hoover, Lance Cpl. Kareem M. Nikoui, Cpl. Hunter Lopez, Lance Cpl. Dylan R. Merola, Cpl. Humberto A. Sanchez, Cpl. Daegan W. Page, Navy Hospitalman Maxton W. Soviak, Cpl. David L. Espinoza, Army Staff Sgt. Ryan C. Knauss, and Lance Cpl. Rylee J. McCollum. Together, we honor the lives of these brave individuals and the profound sacrifices they made.
