On Friday, February 16, 2024, Commissioner Michael Cox participated in the swearing-in ceremony for the latest recruit class of cadets at the Boston Police Academy in Hyde Park. This event symbolized the culmination of their training program, formally launching their careers with the Boston Police Department as new cadets and bringing them closer to their ultimate aspiration of becoming Boston Police Officers.
The Boston Police Cadet Program serves as an on-the-job training initiative for Boston’s young individuals aspiring to pursue a career in law enforcement. Participants commit to a minimum of two years in the program, during which they undergo rotations across various assignments and shifts within the Department, including Headquarters, District Stations, and other specialized units throughout the City.
Eligibility for the program entails being aged between 18 and 25, current residency in Boston with continuous residency in the city for the past five years, possession of a valid Massachusetts driver’s license, and attainment of a high school diploma or GED.
