At about 2:30 AM, on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, officers assigned to the Anti-Crime Unit of District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Jamell Spurill, 41, of Boston, on firearm related charges.
Officers were on patrol on Washington Street when they observed a motor vehicle traveling at a speed greater than reasonable. Officers followed the vehicle, and observed the vehicle to make an abrupt turn onto Dale Street. Officers observed the vehicle to accelerate, and officers activated their emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.
The vehicle failed to stop for officers, and eventually pulled over in the area of Rockland Street and Wakullah Street. Officers made contact with the occupants and requested the operator’s license and registration. The operator handed officers his license but refused to give the vehicle’s registration. Officers requested the additional information multiple times. The operator shifted the vehicle back into drive, and fled the traffic stop.
Officers advised Boston Police Operations that the vehicle fled the scene and a description was broadcasted. Officers were able to locate the vehicle in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Clifford Street. Officers requested all three occupants to exit the vehicle, and they were placed into handcuffs.
Officers canvassed the flight path of the area where the vehicle fled and located a discarded firearm under a car. The firearm was later determined to be a Ruger P9S with seven rounds in the magazine.
Spurill was placed under arrest and charged with: Unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, fail to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and leaving the scene of property damage. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
