Loaded Firearm and over 100 live rounds of ammunition Recovered during a Traffic Stop in Mattapan

At approximately 10:12 pm on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, Members of the Youth Violence Strike Force along with officers assigned to district B-3 arrested Nyjohn Jones, 19, of Mattapan on firearm related charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Fottler Rd due to a recent homicide that occurred. While in the area their attention was drawn to a heavily tinted vehicle, a query of the vehicle revealed it to have an expired registration as well. The officers conducted a traffic stop and recognized the suspect from a prior interaction where they later learned he provided a false name during that interaction. The officers issued an exit order due to the suspects evasive behavior and refusal to be identified, upon conducting a frisk the officers located a black semi-automatic firearm in the suspects waistband. The firearm was later determined to be a 9mm P80 Ghost Gun loaded with 9 rounds in the magazine, 1 round in the chamber, the officers also located an additional 99 live 9mm rounds in the truck of the vehicle.

Jones was placed under arrest and charged with: Unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, Possession of a high-capacity magazine, Possessing a loaded firearm on a public way, possession with intent, class B drugs, and possession of class D. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
