Loaded Firearm Recovered After a Traffic Stop in Dorchester

At about 10:59 AM, on Monday, October 16, 2023, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested Francisco Roa, 20, of Braintree on firearm related charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Geneva Avenue when they observed a motor vehicle with no front license plate, and heavy damage to its front passenger door. Officers activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.

Officers made contact with the occupants, and after further investigation, requested them to exit the vehicle. The operator exited the vehicle without incident, but the passenger stated the door would not open due to the heavy exterior damage. Officers requested the passenger to exit the vehicle, and he was guided out of the vehicle through the driver side door.

As the passenger exited the vehicle, officers observed that he was sitting on a firearm. The firearm was later determined to be a Glock 29 with nine rounds in the magazine. The operator was subsequently released from the scene.

Roa was placed under arrest and charged with: Unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and carrying a loaded firearm. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
