Investigation Update: Arrest Made in Connection to Homicide of Derrell Russell

Investigation Update: Members of the Boston Police Fugitive Task Force with the assistance of the District D-14 (Brighton) Drug Control Unit, and Mass State Police VFAS Unit (Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section) arrested Tony Vance, 39, of Roslindale for Murder. The facts surrounding the case can be found below. Vance is expected to be arraigned today at Suffolk Superior Court.

At about 5:41 PM on Saturday, August 27, 2022, officers assigned to District B-3 (Dorchester/Mattapan) responded to a report of a person shot in the area of 970 Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester. On arrival, officers located Derrell Russell, 33, of Brighton, suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital and later pronounced deceased.
