Officers Recover a Loaded Firearm in Dorchester following a traffic stop

At approximately 3:30 am on Saturday October 7, 2023 Officers assigned to the District B-3 (Mattapan) Anti Crime Unit arrested Drequan Heywood, 25, of South Boston on firearm related charges.

Officers were in the area of 1102 Blue Hill Ave when they conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for excessive tints, upon making contact with the vehicle. The 3 occupants in the vehicle began to become very evasive when responding to officers during the stop. Based on those facts and also recent information received from the BRIC the officers issued an exit order to the occupants in the vehicle.

Officers safely removed the first two occupants from the vehicle when the suspect who was sitting in the rear refused to exit the vehicle. The officers after attempting to get the suspect to exit on his own, could observe that the suspect was reaching for his rear pocket at which point he was ordered not to and a violent struggle ensued. The officers could then observe that a firearm was poking out of the suspects rear pocket where he was attempting to reach for. The officers were successful able to disarm the suspect and place him under arrest after a brief struggle.

Heywood was placed under arrest and charged with: Unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of loaded firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm by a career criminal. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
