Today we celebrate “National Police Woman Day” and honor all of the contributions and achievements of women in the Boston Police Department and across our nation. There have been trailblazers who have opened doors for women in policing in our Department and we are proud that the Boston Police Department is surpassing the national average for women in our Department and among our leadership. That said, we continue to work to encourage women to join our ranks as sworn officers and as civilian employees. Along with expressing gratitude to these officers each year on September 12th, National Police Woman Day also provides a platform where law enforcement bodies can advocate for stronger female representation. BPD is actively engaged in these efforts, Police Commissioner Cox signed the 30×30 Pledge this year. The initiative aims for departments to have 30% of their recruits to be women by 2030.
