Investigation Update: At about 2:56 PM on Sunday, September 3, 2023, members of the BPD Youth Violence Strike Force arrested Mikai Thomson, 21, of Dorchester at Albert Street and Ruggles Street in Roxbury. At the time, Thomson was wanted on a straight warrant issued on August 21, 2023 from Dorchester District Court for various Firearms charges and Assault and Battery on a Police Officer.
After further investigation by Boston Homicide Detectives, Thomson was also charged with: Murder, Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm for the homicide of Xavier Rivas, 22, of Boston. The suspect will be arraigned in the Dorchester District Court on TUESDAY morning.
The facts and circumstances surrounding the original incident are as follows: At about 11:41 PM, on Saturday, September 2, 2023, officers assigned to District B-3 (Dorchester/ Mattapan) responded to Old Road and Michigan Avenue in Dorchester for a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers located Xavier Rivas, 22, of Boston suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported by Boston EMS to a local hospital where he was pronounced.
