At about 1:51 AM, on Monday, August 21, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested William Mejia, 33, of Boston, on firearm related charges.
An Officer was on patrol in the area of 594 Blue Hill Avenue when he observed a motor vehicle fail to stop at the stop sign. The officer activated his marked cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. As the officer approached the vehicle, he observed the operator and one of the rear passengers, switch seating positions.
The officer observed all four occupants of the vehicle to not be wearing seatbelts and requested their identifications. Two of the occupants supplied the officer with their driver’s licenses, but two occupants refused to identify themselves. After multiple requests, the remaining two occupants supplied the officer with their identifications.
As responding officers arrived on scene, they observed the front passenger who failed to identify himself to also be grabbing at his waistband. At this time, officers requested the occupants to exit the vehicle. As the front passenger exited the vehicle, he bladed his body, and officers could see the handle of a firearm protruding from his waistband. He was placed into handcuffs without incident. The firearm was later determined to be a Glock 27 with one round in the chamber, and fifteen rounds in the magazine.
The other passenger who initially failed to identify himself, provided officers with a false name. Officers were able to determine his real identity which revealed that he had multiple felony warrants for his arrest.
Mejia was placed under arrest and charged with; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
Giovanni Carrasquillo 36, of Webster, was also placed under arrest for an outstanding warrant for Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Vandalism of Property, Unarmed Robbery, Breaking and Entering, and Larceny from a Building.
The other two occupants were promptly released from the scene.
