Two Suspects Arrested and Two Firearms Recovered in Dorchester

At about 3:01 AM, on Saturday, August 12, 2023, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Anthony Bynum, 23, of Brockton, and Manuel Monteiro, 19, of Brockton on firearm related charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Brinsley Street and Columbia Road when they observed a motor vehicle with no front license plate, and excessive window tint. Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. As officers approached the motor vehicle, the driver continued to drive forward a few feet before stopping in the intersection. Officers ordered the driver to put the vehicle in park, and they were able to make contact with all three occupants.

Officers observed the front passenger to be clenching a fanny pack, and the rear passenger to be pinning his arms against his body. Officers requested the occupants to exit the vehicle to conduct a pat frisk. The driver was compliant with officers’ orders, but the other passengers were resistant.

Officers advised the rear passenger to exit the vehicle to which he refused. After multiple attempts the suspect exited the vehicle with his arms pinned to waistband. Officers requested the suspect to put his arms up which he refused. Officers immediately felt a firearm from inside the suspect’s front sweatshirt pocket.

As officers attempted to handcuff the rear suspect, he violently resisted and attempted multiple times to reach for the firearm. The suspect continued to refuse officers orders to let go of the firearm and put his hands behind his back. Officers were finally able to place the suspect into handcuffs and recovered the firearm. The firearm was later determined to be a Smith and Wesson M&P with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine.

Simultaneously, officers requested the front passenger to exit the vehicle. Officers felt the fanny pack and felt what they believed to be a firearm. At this time the front passenger ran from officers in an attempt to flee. A foot pursuit ensued, and officers were able to place the second suspect into handcuffs. The firearm was later determined to be a Ruger P95DC with one round in the chamber and five rounds in the magazine.

The driver was issued a Massachusetts Uniform Citation and was released from the scene.

Bynum was placed under arrest and charged with; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Resisting Arrest. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

Monteiro was placed under arrest and charged with; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Resisting Arrest. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
