Three Suspects Arrested for Tagging in Downtown Boston

At about 12:31 AM, on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, officers assigned to District A-1 (Downtown) arrested William Sears, 28, of Allston, Kyle Coyne, 32, of Hyde Park, and Iain Wright, 25, of Medford on tagging related charges.

Officers responded to the area of 131 Arlington Street for a Vandalism in Progress. Officers received a description of a male suspect spray painting a wall and another suspect acting as a lookout. Officers observed one of the suspects walking away from the area. Officers activated their emergency lights to stop the suspect, and he immediately fled from officers.

A foot pursuit ensued, and the suspect refused officers commands to stop. Officers were able to place the suspect into handcuffs, and recovered a paint marker and a “jumbo correction pen” often used for tagging. Officers also discovered multiple paint cans from the suspects flight path.

Officers were able to review cameras in the area, and located two other suspects. Officers could smell fresh paint emanating from their clothing as well as fresh paint on one of the suspect’s fingers and shorts. Both suspects were taken into custody without incident.

Officers recovered 12 cans of spray paint, 2 paint markers, and 3 paint caps.

All three suspects were placed under arrest and charged with Tagging Property. Sears was additionally charged with Resisting Arrest. They are expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
