Officers Recover a Loaded Firearm After a Traffic Stop in Dorchester

At about 1:43 AM, on Saturday, June 17, 2023, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) made an on-site firearm arrest at Talbot Avenue and Westcott Street in Dorchester.

While on patrol, officers observed a motor vehicle suddenly turn off its headlight and accelerate at a high rate of speed toward American Legion Highway, while failing to stop for a red light at Walk Hill Street. Officers activated their lights and sirens but the vehicle continued driving at a high rate of speed around traffic which was stopped for the red light at American Legion Highway and Blue Hill Avenue.

Officers were able to locate the motor vehicle, which was stopped on Talbot Avenue and Westcott Street after it blew out the front driver’s side tire. As officers approached the motor vehicle, one of the passengers exited the vehicle and fled on foot. A brief foot chase ensued and the suspect, later identified as Jagher Hawkins, 18, of Brockton, MA, was safely apprehended.

After further investigation officers recovered a loaded firearm. The firearm was determined to be a Glock 26, loaded with eight rounds.

Jagher Hawkins was arrested and will be charged with; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Resisting Arrest.

The driver of the motor vehicle, later identified as Alexander Belony, 19, of Holbrook, MA, was placed under arrest and charged with; Driving to Endanger and Failure to Stop for a Police Officer.

Both suspects are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
