Proactive Warrant Sweep Nets 24 Suspects

Today, June 9, 2011, members of the Boston Police Department (The Fugitive Unit, officers and detectives from Districts A-1, A-15, B-2, B-3, C-11 and D-4) in collaboration with officers from the Boston Housing Authority and Special Agents from Housing and Urban Development initiated and conducted Operation PAWS, a proactive warrant sweep.
The goal of the Operation PAWS is to send a clear message to those individuals who would choose to ignore their responsibility and answerability to the judicial process. Operation PAWS also seeks to target and arrests those individuals who are involved in gang-related activity who would seek to affect the quality of life for the residents of the City and cause fear amongst its residents. By focusing on these individuals, the Boston Police Department seeks to reduce gang violence and let those that would ignore the mandates of our court system know that they will be held accountable.

Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis in response to this warrant sweep stated, “This pro-active warrant sweep is part of our ongoing effort to ensure the safety of the residents from those individuals with no regard for the rules of our society, especially with the summer months upon us.”

Twenty-four (24) individuals were arrested today as a result of Operation PAWS with charges ranging from Assault and Battery to Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Distribution of Class B (crack cocaine and cocaine) Drugs.
