No Hiding from the Dog!

In the early morning hours today around 12:53AM, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to 83 Dix St. for a report of a male trying to steal the caller’s car.
En route, officers were given information that the suspect had just gotten out of the car and was now fleeing up Dix St. toward Dorchester Avenue. As officers got the location of the call, an individual matching the suspect description was observed walking on Dix St. but as soon as officers got out of the car, the suspect fled. Officers chased the suspect but lost sight of him in the area of 28-34 Dix Street. Officers then formed a perimeter and asked for a K-9 officer to respond to the scene to assist in finding the suspect.

While still on scene with a homeowner in the area, officers noticed a bicycle in the bushes and asked the resident of that house about the bicycle. The homeowner at that time told officers that he knew nothing of the bicycle and that it was not there earlier. As officers were speaking to the witness, the K-9, Ajax alerted the K-9 officer to something in some nearby bushes. Officers then announced their presence and that of the dog and asked that anyone in the bushes come but no one came out. Officers allowed Ajax into the bushes and a short time later, a suspect was removed from the bushes who matched the suspect description.

Once the suspect was secured, the victim was brought to the scene and positively identified him as the person who was in her car. The suspect, Dason Alves , 21 of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle.
