VIDEO MESSAGE FROM POLICE COMMISSIONER EDWARD DAVIS

Many of you in the community may be wondering how the significant death of Osama bin Laden affects your safety locally here in Boston.

The Boston Police Department’s Intelligence Unit has been working through the night to closely monitor all intelligence reports from our federal and state counterparts and will continue to aggressively do so.

The Boston Police Department is in contact with the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI to stay apprised of any new developments.

Although there is no specific threat to the City of Boston, we have directed our officers to exercise increased vigilance. We ask the community to do the same and report any observed suspicious activities.

Our department blog, BPDNews.com, offers helpful information on a community awareness program known as iWatch. The information available through iWatch offers the community helpful details on what constitutes suspicious activity and the type of behaviors that should be reported to local police.

We also ask that any revelers be respectful to neighborhoods and honor those who have sacrificed with peaceful public displays.

I would also like to take this opportunity to express the Boston Police Department’s deepest gratitude to the 13 members of the department currently actively serving in the military. We are grateful and proud of your service to our Country and humbled by the sacrifice that you and your families continue to make.

The following officers are currently serving active military duty:
