Why Draw Attention to Yourself?

Around 6:16PM last night, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) Bowdoin Street Safe Team were on patrol in the area of 248 Bowdoin St. when they observed the operator of a car stopped at the red light drinking from a bottle of Courvoisier Cognac.
Officers walked up to the operator of the car and directed him to pull over. Officers spoke to the suspect and asked for his license and registration to which the suspect handed officers a Massachusetts identification card and stated, “I have no driver’s license.” Officers then confirmed that the suspect had indeed been drinking alcohol from the bottle. Further investigation revealed that the suspect had never had a license to drive and that there were two outstanding warrants for the suspect for Operating a Motor Vehicle without Being Licensed.

The suspect, Andre Battey, 37 of Dorchester was arrested and charged with the outstanding warrants and for a new charge of Operating a Motor Vehicle without being Licensed and issued a citation for $500 for having an Open Container while Driving/Drinking while Driving. In addition the owner of the car was summonsed to court for Allowing an Unlicensed Person to Operate a motor Vehicle.
