On Friday, April 1, 2011, officers from Area B-2 (Roxbury) located and apprehended an individual wanted in connection with a bank robbery in Watertown. At about 11:47am, officers responded to a radio call for a person possibly breaking into a home in the area of 682 Parker Street. On arrival, officers located and stopped an individual who matched the description of the suspect seen trying to break into the home. But, when officers attempted to stop the suspect, the suspect took off on foot. After a brief foot chase, officers were able to apprehend the suspect. Richard Bonet, 25, of Worcester was arrested and with Attempted Breaking & Entering (Daytime), Resisting Arrest and the Possession of Burglarious Tools. Bonet was then transported to Area B-2 for booking.
During the booking process, officers discovered that the suspect had a large amount of cash in his possession. Officers further discovered a deposit slip from a bank (Belmont Savings Bank) in Watertown that had been robbed earlier in the day. In light of this discovery, Boston Police officers contacted the bank and local law enforcement officers in an effort to positively identify the suspect in custody.
Upon receiving a positive identification, the suspect will be charged additionally for the Bank Robbery in Watertown.
