Running a Red Light Lands Suspect in Jail for Cocaine Distribution

Early this morning around 12:55AM, officers from District C-11(Dorchester) were on patrol in the area of Fields Corner when they observed a van fail to stop for the red light at the intersection of Adams St. and Dorchester Avenue.

Officers activated their lights and sirens and stopped the van on Park Street.  There, officers approached the car and were immediately overtaken by the smell of burnt marijuana coming from the car. Officers asked the passengers about the smell and one of the passengers admitted that they had just finished smoking a little while ago. As a result of the admission of the passenger and the strong odor of marijuana, officers opted to have the passengers exit the car to conduct a search for more contraband. The driver was ordered out of the car and during a search of his person, officers recovered a plastic containing several smaller plastic bags with a powdery substance believed to be cocaine and a large wad of cash.  Search of the other two passengers resulted in the recovery of a small amount of marijuana for which that passenger was issued a civil citation.

The driver, Antero W. Pires, 31 of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Possession of Class B, Possession of Class B with Intent to Distribute, and Possession of Class B with Intent to Distribute within 1,000’ of a School Zone. Officers also seized over $500.00 of cash from the suspect as proceeds of drug sales.
