POLICE ARREST ONE ATTEMPTING TO BREAK INTO AN ATM IN DORCHESTER

At about 3:12am, on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for an ATM alarm at the Meeting House Bank located at 2250 Dorchester Avenue. On arrival, officers spoke to a witness, who was about to enter the ATM, who stated that he observed an individual trying to break into the ATM. Officers then observed the suspect, in possession of a large bag, jogging away from the scene. After a brief foot pursuit, one where the suspect refused to stop after being told to do so repeatedly, officers caught up to the suspect. After a brief struggle, the suspect was placed into handcuffs. Officers observed and recovered a black ski mask and a large black bag on the ground. A search of the black bag enabled officers to see and seize several tools, including a yellow grinder that was still hot to the touch.

Upon returning to the scene, officers entered the vestibule of the bank where the ATM was located. Upon entering the vestibule, officers detected a strong odor of grinded metal and were able to observe smoke coming from the ATM.

Officers arrested Chris Doyle, 45, of Boston and charged him with Breaking & Entering with Intent to Commit a Felony, Possession of Burglarious Tools and Resisting Arrest.
