At about 2:17am, on Sunday, October 24, 2010, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) were on patrol when officers were flagged down by several pedestrians in the area of School and Washington Streets. According to the pedestrians, an individual driving a silver motor vehicle drove the wrong way up a one way street and almost struck several people as they attempted to cross the street. A search of the area enabled officers to observe and locate the car. Upon seeing the car, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) in an effort to stop the car. However, when the car came to a stop, the operator jumped out of the car and took off on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, officers were able to locate and apprehend the suspect. With the suspect in custody, officers were able to learn that the suspect’s license had been revoked.
The suspect\’s vehicle, which was left unattended in the area of School and Washington Streets, was towed from the scene. Prior to the towing, officers noted that the car had two flat tires, as well as, scratches and dents along the driver’s side of the car.
Officers arrested Naib Bahia, 23, of Medford and charged him with Refusing to Stop for Police and Operating after License Revoked.
