Around 1:53AM this morning, officers from District A-1 (Downtown Boston) were on patrol in the Financial District when they observed a car fail to stop for a red light. The motor vehicle then again failed to stop for a second light at the intersection of High St. and Atlantic Avenue.
Officers activated light and sirens and conducted a traffic stop on the North Washington Street Bridge. Officers approached the car and while speaking to the operator smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from the passenger area of the car. Officers then noted that the passenger was attempting to hide something between her feet which turned out to be a large mug full of beer. There were two other passengers in the rear seats and all passengers were removed from the car. While the operator of the car was getting out of the car, a blackjack (an illegal dangerous weapon in Massachusetts) was observed on the floor beneath his seat.
The operator, Matthew Lyons, 19, of Stoneham was arrested and charged with carrying a Dangerous Weapon and issued citations for Failing to Stop for Red Light. Passenger, Adriana Lomartie, 18 of Stoneham was arrested and charged with being a Minor in Possession of Alcohol.
