Commissioner’s Commendation District E5 — Officers Katherine Shea and Justin Cremins

On Friday May 17th, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. Officers Shea and Cremins responded to a 911 call for shots fired at 189 Durnell avenue Roslindale.  Several 911 callers reported a shootout between two groups of young men; describing them and the vehicle in which they fled.

En route to the scene, Officers Shea and Cremins spotted a Jeep Cherokee fleeing the scene about a quarter of a mile away, Officers Cremins and Shea stopped the vehicle, confirmed that it was used in the shootout and disarmed the occupants, who were charged with assault with intent to murder and unlawful carrying of a firearm.  Ballistic evidence at the scene and in the vehicle was linked to the crime and will result in successful prosecution of the suspects.

Officers Shea and Cremins bravely confronted and disarmed a group of men fleeing the scene of a shootout, minimizing the risk to the public and their fellow officers.  Officers Shea and Cremins’ awareness and actions resulted in the apprehension of a fleeing felon whom they knew as a virtual certainty had shot at and tried to kill another individual.  For this heroic action, they are awarded a Commissioner’s Commendation.
