Early this morning around 3:06AM, officers from District D-4 (South End/Back Bay) responded to 1114 Boylston Street/little Steve’s Pizza for a larceny in progress.
En route, officers were given description of the three males and told that they had fled down Massachusetts Avenue toward Haviland Street. Units responding quickly found three males matching the suspects’ descriptions walking on Massachusetts Ave. near the Christian Science Monitor and stopped them. Shortly after stopping the males, a witness from the pizza store showed up and identified the suspects as the ones who had stolen the tip jar from the pizza store. The suspects, Walter J. Pires, 28, of Dorchester, Valdir G. Pires, of Dorchester and Luis B. Rosa, 21 of Brockton were all arrested and charged with Larceny.
Officers then spoke with the witness from the store who reported that the suspects came into the store and shortly thereafter the store employees were advised by numerous customers that the suspects had stolen the tip jar from the counter top. A store employee followed the suspects and advised officers that the suspects had thrown something over a fence and that the amount of money in the jar had been about $100.00. Officers along with the witness responded to the area where the suspects had been seen throwing the jar and recovered the empty jar. Once the suspects were arrested and brought to the district station, officers recovered approximately the exact same money that the store employee reported was in the jar.
