WHO: Mayor Thomas Menino; Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley and Police Commissioner Edward Davis
WHAT: Mayor Menino in conjunction with District Attorney Conley and Commissioner Davis are asking for increased community cooperation regarding the tragic shooting death of 14 year old Jaewon Martin. Commissioner Davis will also detail the steps the Boston Police Department is taking to address concerns of firearm activity.
At about 3:41pm, on Saturday, May 8, 2010, officers from Area E-13 (Jamaica Plain) responded to a call for a person shot in the area of 944 Parker Street. On arrival, officers located two male victims both suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. One victim was transported to Children’s Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The second victim, 14 year old Jaewon Martin of Boston, suffering from life threatening injuries, was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital where he later succumbed to injuries and was pronounced.
