Last night around 9:14PM, officers from District D-14 (Allston and Brighton) arrested suspect, Derek Price, 18, of Roxbury and charged him with Armed Robbery of a Variety Store, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) and Unlawful Carrying of a Loaded Firearm.
An officer working received a call from the store clerk at Quality Market informing the officer that the store was just robbed at gunpoint by a black Hispanic male, about 5’10”-6’0” feet tall with medium build, medium complexion wearing a white and black hooded sweatshirt. The officer was further informed that the clerk was following the suspect and that he was fleeing on Saybrook St. in the direction of Market Street. The officer receiving the call relayed the information to other units. I n the area of Faneuil and Market Streets, the suspect was observed by assisting units who pursued the suspect to the rear of 41 Faneuil Street. The suspect was caught and apprehended by officers in the rear of 45 Faneuil Street.
Once apprehended, officers conducted a pat frisk of the suspect who was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun. The suspect was detained and positively identified by the store clerk who also informed officers that the gun found on the suspect was the same one that the suspect had used during the robbery.
The victim/witness then explained to officers that the suspect had walked into the store with his face covered with a black mask wielding a gun and demanded that all the money be given to him. The suspect was handed a bag loaded with coins and cash which made it difficult for him to run from the scene. Officers retraced the suspect’s path and were able to recover the bag loaded with coins and cash which the suspect had stolen.
The suspect will be arraigned at Brighton District Court today.
