GOOD SAMARITANS COME TO THE AID OF PEDESTRIAN STRUCK IN JAMAICA PLAIN

At about 9:30pm, on Friday, April 9, 2010, officers from Area E-13 (Jamaica Plain) responded to a radio call for a pedestrian struck while crossing the street in the area of 3694 Washington Street. On arrival, officers observed the victim, a white female in her late 50’s, being treated by Boston EMS and the Boston Fire Department. The victim was transported to the Brigham & Women’s Hospital where she was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

While on the scene, officers spoke to several witnesses who stated the operator of the motor vehicle that struck the pedestrian initially attempted to leave the scene. Officers spoke to one witness who stated that he ran up to the motorist and began yelling for the operator to stop the car and pull over. When the operator refused to stop, the witness states that he reached into the car, grabbed the keys and pulled them out of the ignition. In addition to the aforementioned, a 2nd witness, who was driving behind the suspect, pulled her car in front of the suspect’s car in such a way as to prevent her from driving away.

The operator of the motor vehicle, who was transported to the Beth Israel Hospital for evaluation purposes, will be charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident (Personal Injury) and Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian.  

POLICE ARREST ONE FOR ILLEGAL GUN POSSESSION

 At about 11:50pm, on Friday, April 9, 2010, officers from Area B-3 (Mattapan) were on patrol in the area of Charlotte Street and Blue Hill Ave. In the days prior, the area had been the location of several armed robberies. While patrolling the area, officers observed three individuals walking along Blue Hill Ave. Officers noted and observed that when the individuals saw them, the individuals stopped and changed direction. Upon closer inspection of the individuals, officers noted that one of the individuals matched the description of a suspect associated with one of the earlier armed robberies. When officers began to approach the suspect, the suspect took off on foot in the direction of the Franklin Park Golf Course. As officers were running behind the suspect, they observed the suspect reach into his waist area and discard or toss what appeared to be a firearm. After a search of the area, officers were able to locate and take possession of a silver and black firearm found in the area where the suspect was seen discarding the object. Upon closer inspection of the firearm, officers discovered that the weapon was loaded and its serial number obliterated.

 In an effort to locate the suspect, officers began to search the area in and around the golf course. In short time, officers observed the suspect exit the park in the area of the American Legion Highway. Upon seeing the suspect, officers were able to take him into custody.

 Officers arrested Shawn Godfrey, 19, of Boston and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Number and Carrying a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way.
