C-11 Captain\’s Message

Dear friends,
Welcome to the District C-11 Web Page!  We serve the residents of the Dorchester Neighborhood of Boston.  District C-11 is one of the largest Police Districts in the City of Boston in both geographical size and population. The C-11 Community Service Office attends over 50 Community Meetings monthly which encompasses a large range of groups and topics of discussion.  The CSO Officers meet with our Seniors, community residents, and the business leaders of Dorchester.  The meetings are a great way for the C-11 Officers to provide our residents with Crime Prevention and Safety Tips.  The meetings also create a dialog between the Boston Police and the Neighborhood Residents on issues and concerns they may have which allows us to better serve the community.

We also have a Youth Service Officer who teaches the Gang Resistance and Education Training Program (G.R.E.A.T.) to the children of our neighborhood schools. The objective of the program is to immunize the youth of our community against delinquency, youth violence and gang membership.  District C-11 also runs a Junior Police Academy through the summer months. This program teaches good decision making skills and allows the children to build confidence in their ability to effectively handle different situations they may encounter.

In keeping with the Boston Police Departments commitment to Community Policing, C-11 fields two Safe Streets Teams. The Safe Street Teams are comprised of six Officers and a Supervisor.  They are assigned to the same beat area, which is at the core of the Departments Same Cop Same Neighborhood Philosophy.  The teams are an expansion of the traditional walking beat and have the option of riding on mountain bikes to patrol their area. The two C-11 Safe Street Teams are assigned to the Bowdoin Street Area and Codman Sq.  They have been instrumental in reducing crime, along with building relationships and partnerships with the Dorchester Community.

District C-11 has created a partnership with the State Attorney General’s Office, Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, U.S. Attorney’s Office, Dorchester Court Probation Office, and the Department of Youth Services, along with the Boston Police Youth Violence Strike Force, Boston School Police, and the Department’s Intelligence Unit to hold bi-weekly Violence Reduction Meetings.   At these meetings the Districts emerging crime patterns and trends are discussed and strategies to combat them are formulated.  District C-11 also participates in the Safe Neighborhood Initiative (SNI), which addresses public safety and community development issues through the collaborative efforts of the Boston Police Department, Massachusetts State Attorney General’s Office, and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.  Through this close corporation violent offenders are identified, prosecuted, and removed from the neighborhoods of Dorchester, which allows the community and businesses to conduct their daily activities in a safe and secure environment.

Thank you for visiting the C-11 web page and please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns that you may have.  On behalf of the men and women of District C-11, I wish you well.

Sincerely,

Captain Richard Sexton

Commanding Officer – District C-11
