D-14 Captain\’s Message

\"\"Welcome to our Brighton and Allston police web page. I invite you to explore and use the multi-media offered via the BPDNEWS.COM webpage, it is sure to keep you informed of your police departments’ work in the neighborhoods. Our District 14 officers are committed to preventing crime, addressing issues affecting the quality of life, and ensuring public safety seven days a week and twenty four hours a day. These goals cannot be achieved without the many partnerships that we have formed within the community. Our many partners in Allston & Brighton include the business community, homeowners, landlords, property managers, public and private schools, major universities, St. Elizabeth Medical Center, as well as the long list of active citizens groups that assist us in our efforts. We are all a part of a commitment to keep Allston and Brighton a safe and vibrant community for all segments of what is probably the most diverse part of Boston.
We view “Quality of Life” issues as one of our most important challenges at District 14. Our focus on “Quality of Life” includes: maintaining public order; addressing complaints of noise disturbances and disorderly conduct in traditionally established neighborhoods; educating the young students on issues involving personal safety and responsible off-campus behavior; communicating with bar and nightclub management about the safe operation of their businesses; continuing the partnership with property managers of large multi-unit apartments regarding safety enhancements; working with Councilor Ciommo on reporting and eradicating vandalism graffiti and empowering you to help us maintain your neighborhoods by visiting cityofboston.gov and making maintenance requests online or by iphone using the “Citizen Connect App”
District 14, as always, recognizes the importance of reaching the young children of the community and keeping them on the right track. Our Community Service Office is building and working with many community partners to continue and enhance several programs aimed at young people such as the Allston Brighton P.A.L. soccer league, Allston Brighton Youth Task Force, Friday Night Lights @ B.C. and the Brighton District Court Community Service Diversion program. We also offer G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training), Anti-Bullying, Officer Friendly and Women to Women programming in the elementary schools. Our CSO office offers quarterly, the RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) program and promotes “Operation SMILE” to the disadvantaged children within the community.
In closing, District 14 will always put YOU, the citizenry first. We cannot accomplish our mission without your help and the continued dedication of the residents and organizations in the Brighton and Allston communities. I look forward to meeting each of you in the near future.
Sincerely,
Captain Wayne Lanchester
Commanding Officer – District 14, Brighton.
