POLICE ARREST ONE FOR ILLEGALLY POSSESSING A FIREARM IN EASTIEAt about 10:11 am, on Tuesday, August 11, 2009, officers from Area A-7 (East Boston) observed a motor vehicle travelling along Meridian Street with a broken left brake light. As a result of officer’s observations, officers initiated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) and stopped the motor vehicle. Upon speaking to the operator, officers learned that the operator did not have a valid driver’s license. Moreover, a check of the motor vehicle’s registration via the Registry of Motor Vehicles enabled officers to learn that the plates attached to the motor vehicle were attached illegally. Given the suspect’s nervous nature, officers asked the suspect if there was anything in the car that the officers should know about. In answer to that question, the suspect stated, “I have a firearm in the vehicle.” When asked to produce a license to carry the firearm, the suspect stated, “No.” Officers observed and took possession of a black firearm.
Officers arrested Tom Makulla, 23, of Georgia and charged him with Operating without a License, Operating an Uninsured/Unregistered Motor Vehicle, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition and Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way.
POLICE ARREST THREE FOR STEALING A SCOOTER
At about 9:37pm, on Tuesday, August 11, 2009, officers from Area D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for a larceny in progress in the area of 52 Queensberry Street. On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated that he brought his scooter to work and parked it inside his restaurant. The victim says he was working behind the counter when three black males entered the premise. In short time, the victim says he observed one of the suspects grab his scooter and exit the store. The victim says, upon seeing this, he ran after the suspects in his efforts to retrieve his property. While running behind the suspects, the victim says he observed the suspects dump the scooter in some bushes. Officers promptly broadcast a description of the suspects over the police radio. In short time, officers were able to locate three individuals matching the descriptions of the suspects.
After the victim was able to positively identify the suspects, officers arrested Delois Hunt, 17, of Everett, Alphonso Powell, 20, of Boston and Joshua Grady, 18, of Boston and charged all three with Larceny Over $250.00.
