Detail Officer Witnesses Assault….Firearm RecoveredOn Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at approximately 11:28am, a Boston Police Officer was working a paid detail in the area of Magnolia Street when he witnessed a red ford explorer pull along side a male riding a bicycle and attempt to pull him into the vehicle against his will. The detail officer observed the rear seat passenger take hold of the male bicyclist by the arms and struggle for a few minutes. The bicyclist was able to break free and ran down Dudley Street.
The detail officer gave out a detailed description of the suspect vehicle and its direction of travel. At this time, members of the Special Operations Unit were patrolling in the general area due to recent gun violence activity. They immediately spotted the vehicle on Howard Street and were able to conduct a stop.
A black Lorcin .380 semi-automation handgun was located within the vehicle. The rear seat passenger admitted to owning the weapon. He was then placed into custody.
Officers arrested Jocorey Sanders, 17 of Dorchester on the charges of Illegal Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Numbers.
Observant Officers Recover Firearm
On Monday, August 8, 2209, at approximately 1:34pm, officers assigned to Area C-11 (Dorchester), were traveling in the area of Charles Street when they observed a small group gathering in front of 68 Charles Street. This immediate area is considered a high crime area concerning drugs and guns. Two of the individuals were also recognized as active impact players. The group observed the officers presence and immediately dispersed in separate directions. Based on this information, officers believed their behavior to be suspicious.
Officers approached one of the individuals, who was favoring his right side, and attempted to conduct a pat-frisk. The suspect immediately slapped officer Araujo’s hand away and fled up Charles Street. Officer’s Araujo and Canuto gave chase and caught up to the suspect a short distance away. The suspect immediately took a fighting stance and began throwing punches at the officers. The suspects’ shirt lifted up during the struggle and a black firearm was observed. The officers were forced to remove the firearm from the suspect’s waistband during the struggle. Once the suspect was placed into custody the firearm was recognized to be a fully loaded .380 semi-automatic.
Officers arrested Jefferson Charles, 28 of Boston on the charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Assault & Battery on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.
