C-11 DCU Arrest Suspect with a Firearm in Dorchester

At about 12:00 PM, on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, members of the District C-11 (Dorchester) Drug Control Unit arrested Ronny Lara-Arias, 22, of Dorchester, on firearm and drug charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of 1810 Dorchester Avenue to address ongoing community complaints about drug activity. While conducting their drug investigation, officers observed a group of individuals smoking marijuana inside a motor vehicle. Officers observed an individual exit the rear passenger side of the motor vehicle and walk towards a scooter.

Officers approached the male, and identified themselves as Boston Police officers. The suspect dropped the scooter and he immediately fled from officers. A foot pursuit ensued, and officers observed the suspect throw an unknown object onto the sidewalk. Officers were able to place the suspect into handcuffs, and the thrown object was determined to be a firearm.

The firearm was a Taurus G2C with fifteen rounds in the magazine. Officers also recovered plastic packaging of marijuana believed to be packaged for sale.

Lara-Arias was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, distribution of class D, and possession with intent to distribute class D. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
