Driving In Snowy or Icy Conditions
- In
uncertain and unsafe road conditions, slow and cautious driving is the best
prescription for safe driving.
- Remain
aware of your surroundings and other vehicles to allow yourself ample time and
space to respond in case of any sudden incidents on the road.
- When
merging onto traffic, drive slowly and exercise ample caution.
- Avoid
using cruise control and avoid abrupt steering maneuvers.
- Brake early and slowly. Avoid slamming on the brakes whenever possible.
- If your car has anti-lock brakes, press the pedal down firmly and hold it. If it does not have anti-lock brakes, gently pump the pedal.
- Remember that the faster you go, the longer it will take you to stop your vehicle. If you need to accelerate, do so slowly to avoid slipping and sliding.
