District-Based Violence Prevention
Meetings
Building upon the successful
Operation Ceasefire model, the Boston Police Department runs interagency,
action-oriented meetings that strive to prevent outbreaks of serious gun
violence in Districts 2, 3, 4, and 11. These working groups meet biweekly to
review recent gun incidents and ongoing issues related to gang violence. As appropriate,
participants develop and implement violence reduction plans that combine
enforcement, intervention, and prevention strategies. Additionally, the groups communicate
to gangs that violence will not be tolerated in Boston, and they work with
community-based partners to provide social services and opportunities to youth.
