Officers Recovered a Loaded Firearm After a Traffic Stop in Roxbury

At about 1:44 AM, on Monday, July 17, 2023, officers assigned to the Anti-Crime Unit of District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Melvin McGregor, 32, of Haverhill, on multiple firearm charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of 85 Cedar Street, when they conducted a CJIS query of a motor vehicle which revealed it had revoked registration. Officers made contact with the occupants, and became aware that the operator did not have a license. Officers requested both occupants to exit the vehicle, as it would need to be towed from the scene.

As officers were searching the vehicle, they recovered a loaded firearm. The firearm was later determined to be a Sig Sauer P320 with one round in the chamber and twelve rounds in the magazine. The other occupant was promptly released from the scene.

McGregor was placed under arrest and charged with; Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of Large Capacity Feeding Device, Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Unregistered Motor Vehicle. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
