Suspect in Custody After BPD Cruiser Vandalized in the area of Southampton Street in Roxbury

At about 3:49 AM on Sunday June 25, 2023, an officer assigned to District C-6 (South Boston) made an onsite arrest in the area of 115 Southampton Street in Roxbury. The officer was on a fixed post in the area when she observed an agitated male, later identified as Angel DeJesus, 40, of Roxbury, yelling profanities while walking towards the officer’s parked police cruiser. As the male approached the marked vehicle, he picked up what appeared to be a rock or a partial brick and threw it, striking the cruiser. The suspect then picked up an unknown object and again threw it toward the officer’s parked vehicle, striking it a second time. Upon seeing the officer exit the cruiser, the suspect quickly jumped up on the hood and began kicking the front windshield, causing it to shatter. At this time, the officer deployed her department issued O.C. spray while calling for additional units to assist. The suspect immediately became compliant to the officer’s verbal commands and came down from atop the hood of the cruiser. The officer then detained the suspect on scene while awaiting the response of additional units for assistance and Boston EMS to render aid for the O.C. exposure. Following treatment, the suspect was taken to the district station and booked in the usual manner on charges of Malicious Destruction of Property.

Additionally, officers found that the suspect was wanted on three outstanding warrants: (1) Aggravated Assault, Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, Armed Robbery issued out of Suffolk Superior Court. (2) Assault and Battery on a Household or Family Member issued out of Quincy Court. (3) Aggravated Assault, Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon sought out of Boston Municipal Court.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned in South Boston District Court.
