At approximately 3:00am this morning, there were some tense moments when an officer working a detail in the area of Congress and Hanover Streets responded to a radio call for a female attempting to jump from the N. Washington Street bridge. On arrival the officers observed the female who had climbed over the fence on the outbound side of N. Washington Street and was threatening to jump. A cab driver had pulled over to the side of the road and was pleading with the victim to come back over the fence.
The officer engaged the victim in conversation and determined that she was clearly distraught. At her request, the officer made numerous attempts to contact the victim\’s friend but was unable to reach her. As the situation became increasingly tenuous, the officer continued to engage the victim. At one point the victim became distracted and the officer bravely seized the opportunity to pull her to safety. The officer suffered a slight injury during the maneuver.
The victim was rushed to the hospital for evaluation. The officer was also taken to a local hospital for treatment. The Boston Police Department is proud of the officer and cab driver for their heroic efforts and extends its care and concern to the victim.
