You Can Run … But If a Concerned Citizen Gets Involved … Why Bother???

At about 1:34pm, on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, officers from Area D-4 (South End) were on patrol when they observed an individual running down the street in the area of Boylston & Dartmouth Streets. While looking at the individual, officers then observed several individuals chasing the lone individual. Seeing this, officers joined the foot chase. In short time, officers were able to overtake and catch the suspect. However, while officers were attempting to take the suspect into custody, the suspect punched one of the officers and took off.  However, the suspect’s new found freedom was short lived as a concerned citizen intervened and stopped the suspect’s avenue of escape.
Once caught, the suspect stated, “I dropped it.” Officers later learned that the suspect had stolen an iPhone. Officers located and spoke to the victim who stated that she had just exited the Copley MBTA Station when the suspect ripped the phone out of her hand and took off running. As soon as the suspect took her phone, the victim says she began chasing him and yelling, “He took my phone.”

Officers arrested Jonathan Pabon, 18, of Dorchester and charged him with Assault & Battery on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest and Unarmed Robbery. The victim\’s iPhone was found and returned to the victim.
