Yesterday afternoon around 4:34PM, officers from District C-6 (South Boston) responded to the area of 563 Dorchester Ave. in South Boston for a person with a gun.
On arrival, no one matching the suspect description was found but a few minutes later, officers received another call for a suspect with a gun matching the initial suspect description but this time in the basketball courts in the McCormack Housing Development in the rear of O’Callaghan Way. Officers immediately responded to the basketball courts and there observed a male matching the suspect description. As soon as officers arrived on scene and the suspect saw them he immediately turned and started heading toward the stands. As officers got out of their car, the suspect grabbed his waist and took off running.
The suspect fled down several streets while officers pursued him, all the while clutching his waist. As suspect attempted to flee from officers, he eventually came face to face with an officer at which point, he pulled out a gun from his waist pointed it in the direction of the officer. Several other officers arrived on scene and all ordered the suspect to drop the gun but he continued to point the gun in the direction of the officer. After a short time, and possibly realizing that he was outmanned the suspect finally dropped the gun to the ground and he was placed under arrest. The gun, a 22 caliber semi-automatic handgun loaded with seven rounds, was recovered and made safe.
The suspect, Anthony J. Wallace, 27 of Roxbury was arrested charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon.
