At about 1:22am, on Friday, April 22, 2011, officers from Area D-4 (South End) received a call for a male spray painting near Bukowski\’s Tavern in the area of Boylston Street and Mass Ave. On arrival, officers spoke to witnesses who stated that the suspect was seen spray painting parking meters and a wall in the rear of 18 Haviland Street.  In short time, officers located an individual, carrying a backpack, who matched the description of the suspect. When asked about the contents of his backpack, the suspect voluntarily opened his bag and stated, “Just books.” However, when the suspect opened the bag, officers observed several cans of spray paint. While officers were talking to the suspect, witnesses were brought to the scene. Upon seeing the suspect, witnesses stated, “That’s the guy.” Suspect told officers that his tag name was “ZONE” and that he had been tagging around the area for several hours.  A search of the area enabled officers to locate several \”ZONE\” tags.
Officers arrested a 16 year-old male and charged him with Damage to Property via Graffiti. A search of the suspect enabled offers to see and take possession of several markers and cans of spray paint.
