At about 7:38pm, on Thursday, April 21, 2011, officers from Area B-3 (Mattapan) and probation officer from Dorchester Juvenile Court were conducting Operation Night Light (A curfew check designed to make sure individuals area living up to the terms of their probation) in the area of 267 Talbot Avenue when, upon entering the location, officers detected a strong odor of burnt marijuana in the hallway. When officers ascended the stairs, officers observed five individuals sitting on the stairwell. When officers asked if any of the individuals lived at the location, one of the suspects jumped up and took off up the stairs in an effort to flee the area. Officers followed the suspect and observed the suspect reach into his waist area, pull out a silver firearm and throw it from the porch landing. While officers promptly placed the suspect in custody, additional officers located and took possession of the firearm.
Officers arrested Kenneth Cobb, 22, of Boston and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
