At about 2:30am, on Friday, April 22, 2011, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) responded to a radio call for the report of a law enforcement officer in need of assistance on Charles Street in the area between Boylston & Beacon Streets. On arrival, officers met with the victim, an off-duty Tufts University police officer, who was detaining the suspect who had attempted to steal his wallet. According to the victim, he was walking to his car when the suspect approached and said, \”Give me your wallet!\” When the victim declined, he says, an altercation ensued. During the course of the altercation, the victim sought assistance from two individuals who were later identified as employees for the City of Boston. Both individuals, employees for the City’s Transportation Department, were tending to their assigned street cleaning duties when the victim sought their help. With help from the City of Boston employees, the victim was able to subdue the suspect until police arrived on the scene.
Officers arrested Mateo Starcevic Filipovic, 20, of Boston and charged him with Attempted Unarmed Robbery.
