STEALING CAR STEREO EQUIPMENT LANDS FOUR BEHIND BARS IN DORCHESTER

At about 3:28am, on Thursday, April 7, 2011, officers from Area B-3 (Mattapan) responded to a radio call for a person or persons breaking into cars in the area of 57 Ames Street in Dorchester. According to the caller, two Hispanic males broke into a car and took from the car a large black box that looked like a stereo speaker. As officers were arriving on the scene, officers observed a silver-colored motor vehicle attempting to drive away from the scene. Seeing this, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) and stopped the car. While talking to the operator of the car, officers observed a large stereo speaker resting between the two passengers sitting in the backseat of the vehicle. Officers further observed several tools (screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches) strewn throughout the car. Given these observations, officers instructed all four occupants to exit the car. A search of the car enabled officers to locate several stereo speakers with what looked to be recently cut or frayed wires. When asked how they came to possess the speakers, one of the suspects stated that he bought them from a friend.

While the suspects were being detained, the caller was brought to the scene. Once on scene, the victim was able to positively identify two speakers that had been stolen from his car.

Officers arrested Jorge Nunez, 21, of Boston, Edwin Deleon, 26, of Boston, William Bastion, 30, of Boston, Bryan Santiago, 25, of Boston and charged all four with Possession of Burglarious Tools, Breaking & Entering a Motor Vehicle and Receiving Stolen Property.
