At about 4:20pm, on Tuesday, March 29, 2011, officers from Area C-6 (South Boston) responded to a radio call for a bank alarm at the Mt. Washington Bank at 430 W. Broadway. According to bank employees, the suspect (described as a white male with scruffy facial hair, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and carrying a black back pack) entered the bank and demanded money. While arriving on scene, officers observed a taxi cab, with its rear passenger door open, double parked a short ways down the street from the bank. Upon looking inside the cab, officers observed large amounts of money on the floor of the cab covered in red dye. Officers spoke to the operator of the cab who stated that the suspect jumped out of his cab and fled after the dye pack detonated inside the car. Officers promptly broadcast a description of the suspect over the police radio.
In short time, an off-duty officer observed an individual who matched the description of the suspect. On arrival, officers further noted that the suspect had what appeared to be red paint on his hands.
While officers were questioning the suspect, witnesses were brought to the area where the suspect was being detained. On arrival, several witnesses were able to positively identify the suspect.
Officers arrested Ed Stanton, 40, of Boston and charged him with Unarmed Robbery (Bank)
