At about 5:03am, on Thursday, March 24, 2011, officers from Area B-3 (Mattapan) responded a radio call for breaking and entering in the area of 142 Ballou Ave. On arrival, officers spoke to the caller who stated he heard someone enter his basement and it sounded like the person was still there. A search of the basement proved unsuccessful. However, upon searching the 1st floor of the location, officers were able to locate the suspect who was attempting to conceal himself by hiding in a corner of the dining room. A search of the suspect enabled officers to see and seize four pipe cutters, a flashlight and a screwdriver.
Officers arrested Luther Jones, 54, of Boston and charged him with Breaking & Entering and Possession of Burglarious Tools.
According to the victim, someone had broken into the basement on an earlier date, cut down and stole copper piping in the basement. As a result, the victim stated that had been unable to shower in his house and was forced to use a shower at a friend’s house.
