At about 2:55pm, on Thursday, March 17, 2011, officers assigned to the Area A-1 Neighborhood Drug Control Unit were on patrol in an area of 70 Old Ironsides Way when officers observed a man with a knife. Officers observed the suspect approach a parked car and produce what appeared to be a knife. Inside the vehicle were two individuals (one female and one male). While making their way towards the vehicle, officers observed the suspect smash both the driver side and front passenger side windows in his efforts to assail the occupants of the vehicle. Officers promptly withdrew their department issued firearms and ordered the suspect to drop the weapon.
While scrutinizing the suspect, officers noted that he had a large knife in one hand and a knife sharpener in the other. When ordered to drop both weapons, the suspect reluctantly complied with the instructions given. When officers attempted to apprehend the suspect, a struggle ensued. After a physical altercation, officers were able to subdue and apprehend the suspect.
Officers spoke to the female passenger of the vehicle who stated that the suspect was an ex-boyfriend who became enraged at seeing her with her current boyfriend.
Officers arrested John Tyrone, 26, of Boston and charged him with Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon and Willful & Malicious Destruction of Property
