Yesterday morning around 11:20AM, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested suspects, Shaquille Gray, 18 of Dorchester and Charles Dowell, 17 of Mattapan and charged them with Unarmed Robbery and Assault and Battery.
Officers initially responded to the intersection of Warren and Crawford Streets for a robbery. On arrival, officers spoke to a 15 year-old male victim who reported to officers that he had just been robbed and assaulted by three males who fled the scene with his cell phone. The victim elaborated on the incident by stating that he was waiting for the bus to go to church when he took out his cell phone to call his mother. At about the same time that the victim took out his cell phone, the two suspects and a third male happened to be walking by and suspect Gray slapped the victim’s hand and knocked his phone to the ground. The victim attempted to pick up his phone when the suspect Gray exclaimed, “Don’t even think about picking it up!” The victim attempted to plead his case to the suspects but suspect Gray picked up the phone and suspect Dowell punched him in the mouth. The suspects then walked away on Warren Street toward Quincy Street.
Officers broadcast a description of the suspects and placed the victim in the cruiser in order to try to locate the suspects. After over an hour of riding around with the victim, officers located the suspects walking at the intersection of Blue Hill Ave. and Columbia Road. There, the victim positively identified the suspects but stated that the third male who was with them had not participated in the robbery but rather had just stood by. The suspects were then placed under arrest and charged with the above offenses.
